Bomb explosions at Hotel Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott

Today, Friday 17 July 2009, bomb explosion occurred at two luxury hotel Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott in Jakarta, Indonesia, at approximately 07:40 o'clock (Jakarta time) with the interval time is about 15 minutes. Both bombing was killed nine people and wound 52 others including foreign people (whilst reported). At the same day also occurred an explosion from a car along the toll road in Jakarta, but I cannot find further details because the breaking news on all TV more focuses to Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott.

Indonesian stock price index fell down 0.7 percent after these case. Meanwhile, the Manchester United football team which has the plan ahead to visit Jakarta and stay at Ritz-Carlton hotel for an exhibition game with local team was threatened canceled. Security officials has move quickly making investigations in the two hotels. Strict inspection is also done at the airport especially against the box-car.

Right at 14:00 o'clock today (Jakarta time), President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono met the press and provide his statements in relation to this bombardment. I'm watching it on TV and noted the important points of his statements as follows:

  1. Curse with hard to the terrorist who do bombardment.
  2. President give command to the police and law enforcement to investigate, arrest, and judge all terrorist who do the bombardment with firmly and without hesitation.
  3. Expressed deep sorrow to all the victims.
  4. President said that he got some input that this bombardment have relations to the election, but he does not want to speculate before the evidence has been reveal.
  5. President said that based on intelligence reports, there are terrorist groups that are doing the shoot exercise with the target to shoot himself. He said this statement with showing intelligence photographs as evidence. One photo shows the target in the shoot exercise has using his photograph as the object with a hole right on his cheek. "This is not rumor or issues, this was intelligence reports" he said with firmly.

As I read through the ANTARA News website, Hasyim Muzadi, chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama (largest Islamic organization in Indonesia) said "Terrorism is not a religion and so it is not correct to say Muslims were the mastermind of the bombings". Yes, I agree with him that this is NOT related to particular religion. This is the responsibility of individual actors who has done these terror. Some people said that applying the death sentence is the best solution for reducing terrorist act. But I think they are not afraid for death, right?

Comments

  1. Whoever the perpetrators are and whatever their goals may be, the result of their crime is that once more there are casualties ( over 60 this time) and that the Indonesian people will indirectly be hit hardest by reduced foreign investments and reduced tourism.

They can be proud of themselves, the xenophobic bastards.

  3. Colson - However, the bombing cases would be more than the bombardment itself, including as you say, the effect on investor, tourism, stock exchange index, etc. One that is clear that Manchester United has canceled their trip to Indonesia.
Let pray and hope for everything will going well. My biggest worries is when the presidential inauguration ceremony. How with you?

Amrita - Thank you very much for your attention. We are OK, may be because I'm and family not living in Jakarta. Perhaps I should more carefully.

They are not afraid of death because, they have been brain washed by fanatics who stay behind the scenes and pull strings. We have proof that it happened so in India. The terrorists were all under the influence of some kind of drugs also.

All Muslims are certainly not terrorists, but many people now are beginning to ask why is it that almost all terrorists in today's world are Muslims.

Islamobphobia is the single largest stereotyping that is now taking place in the world. Sad, but true.

  6. I hope that similar events do not occur again in the future. This is a jolt for all of us, not only for Indonesia, but for everyone in the world.

  7. They are such freaky people..coward..idiot..i don't know what else should i label on them..whoever behind this disastrous incident, they want do destabilized our nation, to divide our people and to spread insecurity among the people.
I pray such incident will never happen in the future...

Indeed, some segment this kind of idea is been spread among the muslim, i might say they were created to raise war against each other and to spread division within the muslim ummah, and above all to create negative stereotype on muslim. You must have hear about the global confrontation that would happen in the future "the west and the rest" which was written by Samuel Huntington in his book Clash of Civilization. But this just exaggerated prediction..i think every religion in this world teach their people to live in peace where ever they live and not in confrontation.

  8. Mama Hilda, thank you for your response. Yes, I have read Samuel Huntington's Clash of Civilisations and partly agree and partly disagree with his observations.

I tried to see what sort of a blog you have up and am disapointed as it is all in Indonesian and nothing in English.

Please feel free to visit my blog and leave comments if you desire so. I would really appreciate it.

  10. It's unbelievable that people can be so evil by killing themselves and some innocent people.

  11. Harry Nizam - Yes, unbelievable, but that's the fact. According to you why they are able to do that?
    Maniac? False doctrine?

or like Rummuser said at above:
"brain washed by fanatics and/or under the influence of some kind of drugs?"

Is Multipolar World Really a Global Democracy

The United States stood alone as the world’s sole superpower after the Soviet Union collapsed, where one dominant player wields the vast majority of military, economic, and cultural influence. We call this circumstance as unipolar world . That is essentially one setting the rules for everyone else. But if you look at the news lately, that single-power dynamic is slowly shifting, especially since the rise of China. We are moving towards a multipolar world - a setting where power and influence are distributed among a few major powers: the US, China, and Russia . Global stage now is like a game of throne. Their intense competition will be reshaping our world to multipolarity. Given these realities, I have a big question that might spark some debate. Is a unipolar world actually a " global authoritarianism "? Is a multipolar world really a " global democracy "? I'm interested in looking at it through the lens of the availability of choice. Some people argue that a ...

LGBT and Human Rights

The existence of LGBT people in society is a fact. Legally, some countries legalize their status, while the majority of others still do not. What influences someone to become LGBT? There's a whole range of hypotheses, from the viewpoint of genetic, psychological, psychosocial, and personal experience. It is too long to write here, so please read it on the internet. The logical question is, who doesn't want to have a normal family (father, mother and biological children)? Sometimes I can understand that people who experience same-sex sexual desire are not their logical choice. LGBT people demand their rights using human rights arguments. Meanwhile, the majority use arguments that apply in society. Indeed, this is a complex phenomenon, like between liberals and conservatives. So, what is my view on this phenomenon? Well, I was born and raised in eastern culture, a religious society. But I tend to think moderately. Personal freedom of LGBT people in society to live and earn a livi...

Waiting In Line.

What? Talking about waiting in line? Yeah! Why not? Maybe you think this is a useless, trivial topic. But I witnessed several incidents of scrambling over the distribution of free basic food. Either the aid was from the government or from the UN. Even some people died as a result of being trampled under foot. It could be that the distribution method is not done correctly. But I think it's more about people's patience. In many cases, maybe you have heard stories about the method of bribing officers so that their wishes can be processed more quickly without having to queue. I have not found a study/research about which countries are the most disciplined in queuing. But from what I have heard and read so far, it is Japan. Changing the character of an adult (or an old person) is not easy. It's easier to educate children from birth. I'm talking about this topic not because I'm better than you. I'm just thinking about how to shape the character of our children as the ...
