Public holidays 2014 in Indonesia

In August 2014, the Indonesian people have enjoyed the 2 days of national holiday, that is: Eid al-Fitr 1434 Hijri on 8-9 August 2014 and the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia on 17 August 2014. Approximately four months onward, the year 2013 will end. According to the Chinese calendar, the year of snake will be replaced with the year of horse at the time of the Chinese New Year 2565 on 31 January 2014. For those of you who want to plan the agenda in 2014, need to pay attention to the official national holiday and also the so-called "Cuti Bersama" (en: Joint Holiday) which has been declared by the three ministers on August 21, 2013 in Jakarta, as follows:

National Holidays in 2014 (translated in English in parentheses) :

In addition to national holiday in 2014 the government still giving time for "Cuti Bersama" (en: Joint Holiday) as public holidays:

  • 30-31 July and 1 August (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday): Cuti berama Idul Fitri (Joint holiday for Eid al-Fitr 1435 Hijri).
  • 26 December (Friday): Cuti bersama Natal (Joint Holiday for Christmas).

Joint holiday was meant to give sufficient time for the people to prepare to return to work and be more fresh after celebrating their religious holidays.

Indonesia calendar 2014

What is interesting in 2014? Ahaa ... International Workers' Day on 1 May has been declared as a national holiday in accordance with "Keputusan Presiden Nomor 24 Tahun 2013" (in English : Presidential Decree No. 24 Year 2013). So, in total there are 14 national holidays, even 4 holidays that fall in May 2014. Enough for a year? (ahemm...).

What is not exciting? First, companies reduced the number of annual leave by the number of joint holidays. Second, the government not yet giving Joint Holiday for Vesak Day, Day of Silence and Lunar New Year.

If we look at May 2014, there are 2 working days (date 26 and 28) flanked by the 2 holidays, and date 30 flanked by a holiday and a half working day (Saturday, 31). For this case in Indonesia, people usually dub it as "Hari Terjepit Nasional" (my translation in English is "National Wedged Day") with the hope such days will be included as holiday.

May this post beneficial for you super busy man to draw up schedule in 2014. Pssttt... may also beneficial for printing business which in the near future will be flooded by the request to print calendar 2014 (laughing...ha..ha..).

Special note: This post was published because... while draw up my schedule in 2014 (how about you?), suddenly I miss blogging world. Warm regards for Ramana in India, Jim and Neil in Australia, Colson in Netherland, and Jean in America.

  1. First of all I hope you will keep up your present blogging mood. Secondly the number of Indonesian public holidays is really impressive. And thirdly we Dutch have them as well: New Year, Easter Monday, King's Day, Liberation Day, Ascension Day, Whitsuntide ( Monday), Christmas & Boxing Day ( Christmas).

    1. For sure we don't have King's Day. You will be more impressive if know that there are 21 local holidays in Bali province for this year, like Galungan Day, Kuningan Day, Pagerwesi Day, Saraswati Day, Siwa Ratri Day, Ngembak Geni Day, etc, etc. Whether in Netherland have the so-called Joint Holidays?

    2. Hesitant discussions have started to limit the number of traditional Christian public holidays ( Easter Monday or Whitsuntide) and introduce one or two Muslim public holidays. But no plans for a genuine Joint Holiday I'm aware of. May be because ours is as much a secular country as Indonesia is a religious one.

  2. I was just in Jakarta for Idul Fitri. The timing was perfect, but accidental. Didn't realize how important it is to plan trips around holidays. It made the traffic much less of a challenge. Thus, the schedule is quite helpful.

  7. This is quite a number of public holidays you have here. A good bit of information to hang onto for those wanting to plan a holiday in this part of the world. As an option maybe travellers could consider scheduling a stay at Keraton at The Plaza Jakarta in and around these holidays.

Musing Of The Pornography Law

On Thursday, October 30th 2008, People's Representative Council of The Republic of Indonesia (Indonesian: Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Republik Indonesia / DPR RI) has been legalize the draft of anti-pornography law. The definition of pornography in that law are (original text in Indonesian): BAB I, Pasal 1 (1): Pornografi adalah materi seksualitas yang dibuat oleh manusia dalam bentuk gambar, sketsa, ilustrasi, foto, tulisan, suara, bunyi, gambar bergerak, animasi, kartun, syair, percakapan, gerak tubuh, atau bentuk pesan komunikasi lain melalui berbagai bentuk media komunikasi dan/atau pertunjukan di muka umum, yang dapat membangkitkan hasrat seksual dan/atau melanggar nilai-nilai kesusilaan dalam masyarakat. LGBT and Human Rights

The existence of LGBT people in society is a fact. Legally, some countries legalize their status, while the majority of others still do not. What influences someone to become LGBT? There's a whole range of hypotheses, from the viewpoint of genetic, psychological, psychosocial, and personal experience. It is too long to write here, so please read it on the internet. The logical question is, who doesn't want to have a normal family (father, mother and biological children)? Sometimes I can understand that people who experience same-sex sexual desire are not their logical choice. LGBT people demand their rights using human rights arguments. Meanwhile, the majority use arguments that apply in society. Indeed, this is a complex phenomenon, like between liberals and conservatives. So, what is my view on this phenomenon? Well, I was born and raised in eastern culture, a religious society. But I tend to think moderately. Personal freedom of LGBT people in society to live and earn a livi

Artificial intelligence ChatBot.

The world is enthusiastic about the so-called ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer) developed by an artificial intelligence research laboratory called OpenAI. Google also did not want to be left behind by developing their own version called Google Bard. Both are powered by artificial intelligence technology. There is a lot of news about this technology, which I think, at least for now, is over-reactive. Like the assumption that artificial intelligence technology will exceed human intelligence (its creator), and moreover, replace humans themselves. On the other hand, Elon Musk warned that this technology could cause a "catastrophic outcome" for humanity if not controlled. He even called a temporary halt to its further development. Considering he was one of the main donors to this project, I found it odd. I don't know if this is a marketing trick to blow up investors' interest. After all, ChatGPT, Google Bard, or artificial intelligence is just a computer pr
