Gus Dur, I love you

Gus Dur
Former President Abdurrahman Wahid (known as Gus Dur) has died on December 30, 2009 at 18:45 in Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) Jakarta, because of illness. This is the most shocking news in Indonesia. Why? Because, Gus Dur is a teacher of the nation, guardian of democracy and justice, always emphasize the importance of togetherness between the majority and minority, inter-ethnics and inter-religious, so that Indonesia become a great nation. If you have more time, please also read this.

I am a Chinese who lived and has became an Indonesian citizen since my grandfather, and what I said about him is NOT because he has gone, but truthfully from the deepest of my heart. Mr. Gus Dur, the leader of my heart, I pray your soul rest in peace. My tear is for you and I love you full.

Remember...! Charisma of a leader is a gift from God. Unlike the leaders who want to look "authoritative" because that is something that can be conditioned, so that impressed as (look like) authoritative person.

  4. Sincere condolences are on it's place here indeed. Gus Dur stood out by his open mind and tolerance, his efforts to be fair to all ethnic and religious minorities - Jews included.

His modernity and often humurous even excentric style made him often run ( far) ahead of his flock...

    May he rest in peace.

What a PhD mean for you

What is Ph.D.? Yes I know it is a prestigious academic degree. Only that? Hmm... I think NO. It's hard to describe it in words. You better focus on the illustration below:

And... the things that made me fall silent is what was said by Matt, below:
If you zoom in on the boundary of human knowledge in the direction of genetics, there's something just outside humanity's reach. My wife and I chose to start funding these graduate students after we learned that our son has a rare, fatal genetic disorder. It may be too late for my son, but it's not too late for other children. Even one child suffering is one child too many. The only way to end this kind of suffering is science. And, the best way to do science is through graduate students.

What a beautiful thoughts that touched my heart.

Capital Punishment Against Bali Bombers

Last night, when I watching TV, I be attracted with the news about capital punishment against the main performers of the Bali Bombings incident. According to "TV One" (one of the Indonesian TV broadcasting), on October 24, 2008 (means today), the Indonesian attorney general will announce the execution plan for them. Faced that announcement, their family will put forward the re-consideration through their lawyer team next week.

Yes, according to the law, they were guilty and must be punished. But the capital punishment is equivalent with splitting the soul from the body. My big question is "Whether these world must have the capital punishment?" I don't know!

VETO VS DEMOCRACY

In this post I only quotes the things associated with the two words above. Please use your sense and read carefully to find and feel the fundamental differences from it.

VETO
According to Wikipedia: "A veto, Latin for "I FORBID" is used to denote that a certain party has the right to stop unilaterally a certain piece of legislation. In practice, the veto can be ABSOLUTE (as in the U.N. Security Council, whose permanent members can block any resolution). In the United Nations Security Council, the five permanent members (the United States, Russia, the People's Republic of China, France and the United Kingdom) have veto power in substantive matters, though NOT in procedural ones. If any of these countries votes against a proposal, it is REJECTED, even if all of the other member countries vote in favor.

According to Global Policy Forum: "The five permanent members of the Security Council (China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, and United States) ENJOY the privileg…

Sincerity mathematical formula.

I am classify science into two: exact and non-exact science. I am sure you have known mathematical formulas to calculate area, volume, profit and loss in business, etc. This field is known as exact science which requires logical thinking. Beyond exact science such as philosophy, theology, social, politic, in my opinion there is no exact formula. Am I correct?

Well, what if we make a mathematical formula to calculate the level of sincerity. Can it be? Let's try it. For this one I made the following illustration.

I am aware that the hypothesis above has not yet been scientifically tested, therefore I allow the researchers to test it. For readers of this blog, please understand and prove it yourself from your own viewpoint. Perhaps you are imagining the formula above is a form of bill to calculate the expected result of your good deeds with God. Ohh... that is up to you because I am not forcing you to do that.

Public holidays 2014 in Indonesia

In August 2014, the Indonesian people have enjoyed the 2 days of national holiday, that is: Eid al-Fitr 1434 Hijri on 8-9 August 2014 and the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia on 17 August 2014. Approximately four months onward, the year 2013 will end. According to the Chinese calendar, the year of snake will be replaced with the year of horse at the time of the Chinese New Year 2565 on 31 January 2014. For those of you who want to plan the agenda in 2014, need to pay attention to the official national holiday and also the so-called "Cuti Bersama" (en: Joint Holiday) which has been declared by the three ministers on August 21, 2013 in Jakarta, as follows:
National Holidays in 2014 (translated in English in parentheses, appologize if incorrect) :
1 January (Wednesday): Tahun Baru 2014 (New Year 2014).14 January (Tuesday): Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW (Birth of the Prophet).31 January (Friday): Tahun Baru Imlek 2565 (Chinese New Year 2565, also known as Lunar New Year…
